Description
Honey Raw.
From local beehives in Oregon, our honey is raw (meaning it is minimally treated) and is of the ‘clover’ variety. Commercially prepared honey is generally light in color and often holds a thin consistency. This is due to the various refining techniques that store bought honey undergoes to make it shelf ready. Raw honey tends to be darker in color, and is often on the extra thick side of the consistency scale.
Raw honey does have a bit of a “grain-y” texture to it, which some people might not enjoy. Personally I am not offended by the texture …. and you can lightly heat it in the microwave to make the texture change to a smoother consistency (though it will reset back to its normally thicker state once it has cooled down).
Our honey has never been heated over 110 degrees and is not highly filtered. This means the jar you will receive retains the naturally occurring bee pollen and other bits of hive material, which some people may find off putting, making this a truly raw product.
In beauty care recipes, honey has been touted for its amazing anti-bacterial nature. There are a lot of websites that claim benefits for acne related issues using a mask of honey, raw coconut oil (like our extra virgin coconut oil), natural cinnamon powder, and maybe a bit of any type of clay to help “bind” it better onto the skin. The results seem to vary from what I’ve read, depending upon your skin type you may see a range from lightly helping to significant changes with acne outbreaks. Sound interesting? Get out the bowl and blend it together:
* Extra virgin coconut oil – raw honey – a bit of cinnamon powder – and clay if you choose to add it. Blend, apply to your face and allow to sit for about 20 minutes. Remember — continual use is a key in any beauty care regime. Always keep the cinnamon powder in low ratio — adding too much can burn your skin – so use sparingly – a little goes a long way.
