Description

Used in the finest spas for facials and herbal body packs, Red Kaolin Clay has the ability to quickly pull dirt, oil, and bacteria from your pores.  Red clay is best suited for normal to oily skin types. If you have sensitive or very dry skin, we suggest that this clay might be a bit too “aggressive” and to give our white kaolin clay a try instead.  Clays work by stimulating blood circulation by pulling it to the surface of your skin.  During this process, some people notice their face will “flush” — this is only temporary, sometimes lasting for about 30 minutes after using a mask.

Clays are super simple to use, simply add warm water to form a soft paste, stir, then apply to your skin avoiding the under the eyes and under the nostril areas. Allow to set and wash off with warm water. It’s that simple and yet very effective!

If your skin is suffering from a specific problem, you can easily change the basic recipe (above) to accommodate your own unique need:

Very oily skin: add a little FRESH lemon juice to help draw out oils and tone the skin.

Dry skin: Add a little expeller-pressed mayonnaise (or plain yogurt works well, too), or add a mashed-up avocado … your skin will feel super soft!

Or try this bath recipe!

  • 1/2 cup dried buttermilk powder
  • 1 cup dead sea salts (either fine grain or coarse)
  • 3 Tablespoons red clay
  • 10 drops essential oils of your choice (or none at all for an unscented bath experience)

Mix all the dry ingredients together, then add the essentials oils (if using) and stir very well. Add to rushing water and soak your pains away!

Red Kaolin Clay can also be used to naturally color homemade cosmetic products. Using this in bath bombs, melt & pour soaps and other recipes, it will produce a nice ‘earthy red’ tone as well as provide your finished product with an excellent texture & skin-softening properties.

Please note that red clay can stain clothing.

INCI: Montmorillonite (red) clay

Please note that naturally occurring clays cannot be “certified organic” in the USA.  The term “organic” is reserved for items that are grown in a field under organic supervision.  Our red clay is 100% pure, with no added fillers – but since it doesn’t meet the FDA’s requirement of being field-grown, it is not certifiable.  If it were possible, we would have this item marked as organic.  It can, however, be sold as 100% natural.
