Spirulina Powder.
This finely powdered alga was once considered the superfood for ancient civilizations such as the Aztecs. This is because they knew it contains at least 60% vegetable-based protein, is packed full of essential amino acids, and also provides “good” carbohydrates, enzymes, and vitamins. In recent years this beautiful green powder has been studied for its health benefits ranging from cancer-fighting, immunity-boosting, and its overall health benefits associated with its internal consumption.
To be used in cosmetics, you can achieve a beautiful deep-sea green in soaps – either melt & pour or cold process. For cold process, add 1 tsp. at trace to a 5 lb. batch. For melt & pour, simply stir into a small amount of glycerin or melted soap and run it through a strainer. Add small amounts and stir until the depth of color you desire has been achieved. Since Spirulina Powder is an algae, remember that this scent will be passed into the finished product. Keeping it at a low ratio will limit the scent — or it works great for any product designed to remind the buyer of the ocean.
