Clove holds strong germicidal properties. In many countries it is used as a topical anesthetic for toothaches, and other issues of the mouth. Because of its natural antiseptic benefits and pleasant taste, it is often added to mouth washes formulations.
If you’ve ever wondered about the differences between the various clove essential oils – this may help clarify a bit: Clove Stem is primarily used in formulations due to its more realistic scent. Clove leaf is cheaper than clove stem and is generally used in soaps due to cost as well as its stronger scenting power. Clove bud is generally used in aromatherapy and pharmaceuticals.
CAUTION: As with all essential oils, dilute into carrier oils before applying them directly onto the skin. Keep oils away from eyes and mucous membranes. Keep out of reach of children. Stop using if there is any irritation. Research each oil well before using. Some oils cannot be used by those with certain health conditions.
