Licorice Root C/S.
According to WebMD, there has been studies done on Licorice Root C/S that suggests it has the ability to cut tooth decay when rubbed on the teeth. Of course, it should be noted that we are talking about using the straight root as sold here, and not the sugar candy licorice which is currently no longer made or flavored with actual licorice root, sorry! This thought makes it an interesting idea to be formulated into products designed for oral use, such as homemade mouthwash and toothpastes. The reason for its benefits against gum disease and tooth decay is that licorice is highly antibacterial. When used in lotions and creams, that benefit would also be passed into your final product, possibly helping the preservative system just slightly. To use this way, simply steep the root in water or oil until it releases, then strain and use the juice inside your formulation as part or all of the water or oil content called for in your recipe.
It is recommended that those with high blood pressure, avoid the internal use of licorice root. Pregnant women also shouldn’t consume this root.
